Understanding Islam
Islam presents itself as a mysterious religion : God is supposed to have directly revealed his word – the Koran – to a prophet in Arabia that was still pagan. It would be on such basis, and on the model of such prophet’s life, that Islam appeared between 610 and 632, from nothing as it were. In the following centuries, califs and their scribes, theologians, lawyers, grammarians, calligraphers and specialists of the tradition would have done nothing else than a mere shaping of the Islam preached, lived and embodied by the prophet and his companions: put in identical writing of the Koran, review and writing of the traditions (biography of the prophet, hadiths, holly history), exegesis of the Koran, up to the constitution of the Sharia (Islamic law).
To such prior mystery can be added some difficulties of understanding of a religion and a judicial system very different from what happened in the West, and for which the religious analogies based on the Christian experience do not work: the Koran is not an “Islamic Bible”, Muhamad is not an “Islamic Jesus”, a mosque is not an “Islamic church”, the Sharia is not a moral law governing at first the inner-self, etc. Similarly, there are the same difficulties of understanding – in the other way – for the Muslims as regard the western understanding of the religion, the justice, the law and the State, the civil society (all elements that Islam includes in its system).

Islam is nevertheless very understandable : some specialists studied it in detail and intend to explain it to the public. In particular, it is the mission of CLARIFIER, founded in 2009, actor of Mission Ismerie driven by an expert called Annie Laurent. Its website explains Islam, its writings, its dogmas, its vision of the world, the mission it gives to Muslims.

Furthermore, the mystery about the origins of Islam has been raised by the historical research. It has been possible to dissect the long historical process of emergence of Islam has an organized religion and has a government system of the caliphal empire. A deep understanding of Islam is now possible regarding to the hopes of the Muslims, the same hopes that headed in such historical process. This is explained by Odon Lafontaine (author of the book Le grand secret de l’Islam, founder member of Mission Ismerie, who has been directing since about ten years a survey, synthesis and popularization of historical researches on the origins of Islam (see his YouTube Channel). He runs a workshop to understand Islam within the Community Ain Karem. He contributes to the editorial staff of training and information website supported by Mission Ismerie, intervenes in the Forums Jesus the Messiahand supports Mission Angelus in its activities of training to the knowledge of Islam:
